Sometimes we may ask for additional verification if we are unable to verify your identity.
We use a variety of ways to verify your identity, but both of the following allows us to get you up and running quickly.
- A government issued photo ID 🛂
- A selfie image 😊📷
It also helps us fight bad guys (and gals) who are stealing identities and committing fraud.
We understand that it may seem cumbersome or overly invasive to ask for your government issued photo ID and a selfie image. However, as an Electronic Money Institution regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority, we are subject to Bank Secrecy Act/Anti-Money Laundering (BSA/AML) legislation. These laws require us to ‘Know Your Customer’ which means that when you link a card or take another action within Circle, we may have to verify that you are who you say you are.
In the event that you've lost your device, asking for a photo of your ID acts as a temporary form of two-factor authentication.
