In addition to being able to send/receive money with Circle customers in every country where Circle is supported (US, UK, and certain countries in Europe), Circle customers are now able to receive money from countries where the Circle app is not available, through our global partners. Our first global partner is Korbit, in South Korea. Even though Circle is not available in South Korea, people there can send money from their Korbit account to a Circle customer’s account.
As a Circle customer, receiving money from outside of Circle is easy, and once the sender completes the necessary verification on their end, the recipient begins the process on Circle. In the recipient’s Circle account, the customer will see a notification on their account homepage once the funds have been sent from the global partner, and an email will be sent to the email address associated with the Circle account. The recipient on Circle will be required to submit their name, date of birth, full address, and (in the U.S. only) the last 4 digits of their social security number. If the recipient does not yet have a Circle account, an email will be sent to the email address entered by the sender, and the email will help the recipient open a new account, and then submit that information. If you have already submitted all of the necessary information and received payments from global partners in the past, you will see the incoming payment in your Circle account balance instantly. For instructions on sending the money from Korbit, see our other support article on the subject found here.
For customers who already have a Circle account:
Once you receive the email about your incoming payment, sign in to your Circle account, and look below your balance for the banner you can click for updating your personal information. Click on the green button in that banner to be taken to the information form. After selecting your country of residence, you’ll enter your full address, date of birth, and the last 4 digits of your Social Security Number (if you live in the US). Circle needs to make sure all of your information checks out, so it can take some time for your submitted information to process (up to 10 minutes). As long as all of the information is correct and our system can verify you, the funds should appear in your account balance after that waiting time. Future transactions should then go through to your account balance instantly!
Note: If you do not see the funds in your account after the processing period, there is a chance we were not able to verify the information or your identity. Our team has to manually review your account in order to find out which additional pieces of information, if any, we will require from you. Once our team is able to manually verify your identity information, the funds should appear in your balance.
For customers new to Circle:
You will be sent an email about the incoming payment. That email will prompt you to open a new Circle account using your name and phone number, linking those to the email where the funds were initially sent. After you open your Circle account, the steps to accept the payment are the same as above.
